Hypnosis as neurophenomenology.
Hypnosis research binds phenomenology and neuroscience. Here we show how recent evidence probing the impact of hypnosis and suggestion can inform and advance a neurophenomenological approach. In contrast to meditative practices that involve lengthy and intensive training, hypnosis induces profound alterations in subjective experience following just a few words of suggestion. Individuals highly responsive to hypnosis can quickly and effortlessly manifest atypical conscious experiences as well as override deeply entrenched processes. These capacities open new avenues for suspending habitual modes of attention and achieving refined states of meta-awareness. Furthermore, hypnosis research sheds light on the effects of suggestion, expectation, and interpersonal factors beyond the narrow context of hypnotic procedures. Such knowledge may help to further foster phenomenological interviewing methods, improve experiential reports, and elucidate the mechanisms of contemplative practices. Incorporating hypnosis and suggestion into the broader landscape of neurophenomenology, therefore, would likely help bridge subjective experience and third-person approaches to the mind.

When the perceived difficulty of a pending task is considered greater than the perceived capability to handle it, then negative stress occurs. Obviously, this involves how your...
The three most popular assisted techniques for shedding those extra pounds are pills, hypnosis, and surgery. The problem with the first is that using pills for weight reduction means that most people must needlessly rely upon them if they are to keep their weight off. And, don’t forget the side effects. People react differently. Some medications even come with warnings of death through heart failure and change in personality. Yet, pills are still very popular in our quick-fix culture.
Surgery, such as fatty tissue removal or lap-band operations, is another alternative. For those people...
There are many ways to think about health. One definition states that it is merely about metabolic efficiency. Others consider that it is the absence of pain, injury, or illness. Regardless, it does refer to a general condition involving a person's mind, body, and spirit. Therefore, when good working definition would state that health is a situation or condition in which the mind, body, and spirit has achieved a state of balance, which is also called homeostasis.
Essentially, we are a complex amalgam of integrated entities. This includes proteins, genes, cells, organs, our mind, and what...
